February 18 2008 | YOU ARE WHAT YOU WEAR

A Six Part eSeries

We are not going to tell you what you should wear. We are not going to tell you what you should or should not have, nor what is "inStyle" or what isn't. You have your own intellegence and as brilliant as they are, we are no Nina Garcia nor Tim Gunn. Our mission, our goals, are to get you thinking about why you make the style and fashion choices that you do and to facilitate critical thinking about how your style choices affect your own personal physical presentation (PPP) to the world.

What does your PPP say about you?

First impressions matter. What first (and perperpetual) impressions are you giving? You want others to think that you are confident and you know who you are. For instance, if you are 35 years old and are still presenting yourself to the world the same way you did in High School, then think about what that says about you. You may be making yourself appear VERY dated, stuck in the 80s, OLD and immature at the same time (yes, that IS possible).

It is not about what others think about you, it is about what you think about yourself.
These are the questions that this site proposes.
And this is our answer.

One person at a time, we can take our appearance more seriously.
Therefore, no more wearing sweats to the grocery store.

Now, you don't have to wear pearls and a gown to the store but you CAN care enough about yourself and the communtiy in which you live to at least wear clothing that if you ran into the mayor, or your future husband, wife, lover, etc. you wouldn't regret it. Clothing that you can stand tall and be proud to be seen in.

Pride in oneself is key to a community having pride itself. A community where each person does not take pride in themselves, is not a community that is strong and progressive. You cannot take care of your community if you don't take care of yourself.

In honor of the launch of this site and of the idea that presenting oneself in the best mannor possible is essential to the development of oneself within their own life and therefore one's own community, we, at CustomMadeStyle, are conducting a 6 month fashion eDiscussion regarding what we believe to be the 6 major aspects of fashion, style, and personal physical presentation (PPP)

1. Handbags
2. Shoes/hosiery
3. Hair/Makeup-Appearance
4. Work clothing
5. Casual Clothing
6. Evening/formal Wear

Please Participate

What is your own personal experience?
How do you make sure that your PPP is a honest reflection of who you are and what you think of yourself?
